Generating dramatic photo shots with AI

Midjourney updated its version to v5.1 in May and vastly improved the "movie shot" quality of the images generated. Will show you some tricks to get the best out of it along with some examples.

First of all, if we plan to generate a set of images we must have in mind a movie, game or something else Midjourney can use as a reference. That will make the shots looks all alike. For this images I was thinking about the Dead Space frozen scenes.

Using the 7:4 aspect ratio, as is the closest to 16:9, which is the most common format in movies and video content in general. That will also help to generate more background in our image.

Started the journey (pun intended) by generating that helmet. I think I was lucky with the results at first tries. End up zooming out the picture later as this was too close. This is a common problem in Midjourney as it focuses too much on the objects. Even with "vast area" was used.

We need our character to wear a space suit that matches that helmet. It was a quite challenge as some suits were too big or already had a helmet. End up using "cyberpunk", "dead space", and "without helmet" to achieve that. Note the stunning quality of the frozen hair below.

We need some sci-fi elements in our movie, let's generate some mining machines in the snow. The "futuristic", "night", "dramatic" or "fog" words help to give the aesthetics we need.

Other elements we can generate for our movie are buildings, spaceships or terminals.

Also using terms like "volumetric light", "HDR" and "dark" may help to produce good lighting atmosphere.

Some images don't really belong to what we asked to generate. As for this prompt "inside ishimura" was used but ended up generating a landscape. I was happy with the result though.

Many other images were generated during the process, sometimes is trial and error. I will keep experimenting and writing about it. And so, you should try to create your own prompts and be creative.
